Our Story
The roots of Pure Fiber Innovations trace back over 35 years, inspired by the groundbreaking book The Emperor Wears No Clothes by Jack Herer. This powerful history of hemp revealed its vital role in textiles, paper, food, and medicine — and how misguided policies in 1938 banned its cultivation in the U.S., stalling a promising agricultural resource.
Motivated by this truth, our founders committed their careers to bringing hemp back into the mainstream — not only to help farmers access new economic opportunities, but also to offer sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels and deforestation.
Over the past three decades, we helped introduce hemp products like textiles to the public, raising awareness of their environmental and practical benefits. Although hemp was re-legalized in 2018, most of the industry’s focus turned to CBD. Fiber remained underdeveloped — limited by high processing costs, underperforming technology, and a lack of infrastructure.
We recognized the core problem: hemp stalks must be transported to expensive decortication factories, where current systems fail to produce clean, long fibers suitable for textiles. This process is costly, labor-intensive, and economically unviable for most farmers.
The breakthrough came in 2021 when co-founder Lawrence Serbin discovered that green, freshly harvested stalks were much easier to decorticate than dried, retted ones. This led to a new idea: could a machine be built to harvest and decorticate hemp in one pass, directly in the field?
In 2023, a chance conversation with Pennsylvania farmer Steve Groff — along with collaboration from David Groff and hemp expert Duane Sugars — brought together the right people and skills to make this vision a reality. In 2024, using repurposed tractor parts, the first working prototypes were built and tested. After extensive trials, and with support from Oregon State University, the team completed its first field-ready machine in 2025.
The result: the Fiber King — the world’s first integrated hemp harvester and decorticator, designed to increase farmer profits and dramatically reduce the cost of hemp raw materials.
At Pure Fiber Innovations, our mission is clear: to make hemp fiber production economically viable and scalable, unlocking hemp’s full potential as a sustainable resource for the 21st century.
Vision Statement
To restore hemp as the world’s premier crop—empowering farmers with a sustainable, profitable alternative, and providing eco-friendly raw materials that help heal the planet and build a better future for generations to come.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to empower hemp farmers with innovative, high-quality, and affordable harvesting equipment that combines cutting and decortication in one seamless process. By increasing on-farm efficiency and profitability, we aim to reduce the cost of hemp fiber and raw materials—making hemp a competitive, sustainable alternative to both natural and synthetic fibers in the global marketplace.
